This can be in the form of solar energy — energy which comes from the sun — or wind energy, energy which comes from wind, to produce electric for the desalination plant. Because we can switch to less fossil fuel — which is bad for the environment — through clean energy. Fossil fuels produce gases that can exacerbate climate change. Moreover, marine desalination can reduce the impact of climate change by creating a more sustainable source of drinking water. That means protecting our planet while also making sure that people have the water they need to survive.
There are also improved marine desalination technologies that make it work better and cheaper. A major concept was creating unique filters that are able to remove salt and other contaminants from seawater. These filters also are extremely thin and contain tiny holes that allow water through but leave salt and other unwanted substances behind. This technology is increasing the efficiency of turning seawater into freshwater. Other new concepts make the process energy-efficient, such as using clean energy sources to fuel the desalination process.
